What is Google Maps?

Google Maps is an easy-to-use Google service providing a high tech mapping system together with information on local commercial services, the relevant addresses and how to get there, and contact details.

With Google Maps the user can find a business and the contact details integrated into a map. For example, the location of the business and the relevant telephone number appear on the map.

In addition, the user can view further information, such as opening hours, the methods of payment accepted and customer ratings.

The Bed and Breakfast Al Giardino is shown on Google Maps with all the relevant information.

What are "Satellite", "Hybrid" and "Map" functions?

With Google Maps you can view a road map or a map of a specific locality; in addition, if you wish, you can access a satellite image of the same area

You can use the zoom function to increase the level of detail of the area being examined, to reduce the detail in order to widen the perspective or to produce a panoramic image in any direction.

These satellite images afford the possibility of exploring or assessing your local area in a very high level of detail. And, in any case, it is fun to look at this type of image!

Finally, if you don't have a preference between map and satellite image, a hybrid presentation is available. This superimposes details such as roads, street names and important local reference points onto satellite images.

Can I personalise my itinerary?

To personalise your route, click on the violet line and drag it to another part of the map. This function is also useful for comparing distances of alternative routes and for avoiding traffic hot spots. When you drag the violet line to a specific point, Google Maps provides instantaneously the revised route map, with new directions in the left hand panel.

Google Maps also updates the time and distance to destination. If you change your mind, to recall the original route just right-click on the location you have introduced and select "Remove this destination".

To avoid motorways, to give an example, select the relevant box above the detailed instructions for the route in the left-hand panel.
