Riviera of the Brenta

The appearance of aristocratic villas along the course of the Brenta River from Malcontenta to Stra, has been a phenomenon that between 1500 and 1700 has testified Venice’s power and the inclination of its aristocracy to a pompous style of life. Already at the end of the 1400, to have a villa along the river, to enjoy there the beautiful season with friends and relatives or important foreign personalities, was a much sought after status. Famous architects and painters were commissioned to build or decorate the villas, name like Palladio, the Count Frigimelica, Scamozzi, Longhena, Zelotti, Giannantonio Pellegrini, Tiepolo, Guarana, Zais to mention only few of the many that left their expertise in those beautiful constructions. The visual impact of the villas with its sculptured gardens had to be strong; it had to hit the travelers with an overdose of artistic and natural beauties harmoniously blended in the architectonic complex.

Not to be missed along the Riviera of the Brenta: Villa Pisani, Villa Foscari, Villa Sagredo, the Park of Villa Belvedere.
